Season for Non-Violence January 2007
Today marks the season again
to remember the voices of Gandhi and King
non-violence is the theme and becoming the change in the world
we wish to see becoming it you and me,
becoming it you and me
CHORUS: Cause its an inside job to be free
in the midst of confusion, pain, apathy
love is the power to enlighten me,
beyond small mind, it’s the key
Got to open my mind wide, open my heart wide
allowin’ it all in free from judgment, fear and separation
being compassion and light
Mahatma Gandhi, he believed
that the only devils in this world we see
are those running rampant in humanity,
creating a nightmare, it seems
“an eye for an eye makes the (whole) world blind (Gandhi)
“injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (ML King)
And Martin Luther King had a dream
that one day all would be free
that all races be joined hand in hand
and see the power of peace throughout the land
“We shall overcome, we shall overcome,
we shall overcome some day
oh deep in my heart, I do believe that we shall overcome some day”*
Got to open our minds wide, open our hearts wide
Becoming the change, the vision we wish to see
becoming it you and me
becoming it you and me
**Rev. Charles Tindley, 1903 wrote “I Shall Overcome”
“We Shall Overcome” was rewritten during the Civil Rights Movement
and became its anthem. © Pete Seeger, 1964
